Coolest Foldable Yet

This year we hired a new chemistry teacher, and she is now OFFICIALLY my "creative genius" idol. Every time I have been in her room, she has all these inventive ideas of things she's done with the kids to get them to learn. The latest is this foldable I saw her kids doing, and I just knew I had to do it soon. We're on the "special quadrilaterals" unit, and I'm going to do something with this.

Anyway, here is the general idea:
1. Fold a paper (longest side) into quarters.
2. Cut any size slits down the center two folds.
3. Cut 2 other papers so that they're just a sliver shy of 1/4 of page.
4. Weave them through the 1st paper as shown.

The beauty is that you get a SECRET extra "side" by prying open the middles. Notice the numbering on the pink strips. You eventually get "12" parts with how I cut it.

  1. I LOVE that foldable! What an amazing idea. I did a foldable for my students in the quadrilaterals unit--they referred to it more than they looked at their regular notes. It was awesome!

  2. I know .... every time it's in my hands, I can't resist prying open and shut the "secret" section.

  3. Where do you put the information? I'm having trouble visualizing this.

  4. Well, I haven't gotten that far yet. I just loved the idea. The chemistry teacher uses it for formulas and names (if the strips are this narrow). If you see the 1-4 then 5-8 then 9-12 in one color, I guess you can somehow coordinate information on one topic there, etc.

If I end up using it, I'll post a picture.

  5. Awesomest foldable ever! I'm not sure how I'll use it, but my students love anything they can play with, so this is awesome! Thank you!

  6. If you see the 1-4 then 5-8 then 9-12 in the sole color, I guess you can somehow coordinate information on the sole subject there, etc.

You could use this to have kids work on their Multiplication Facts (Problem + Hidden Answers), Division, Integers, Distribution, Combining Like Terms, Definitions. A whole lot of possibilities. Very Creative !
