After we had our day of constructing triangles in geometry to see if they were all congruent or not, and after we discussed how to read information, then I had the kids learn about the various postulates and theorems (SAS, SSS, ...). THEN they're ready for this puzzle just to see if they can piece things together. If they complete the congruence statement with the triangle vertices in the right order, and if they correctly place them on the blanks at the bottom, then an interesting fact appears. (UPDATE: yeesh! There was a typo on the picture in #10, but it's fixed now in the download.)
I'm tired just thinking about the effort this took to make. Is geometry your only prep?
ReplyDeleteWell, it was a BUNCH of copy/paste actions, so that saved time. Also, depending on how you count it, I have either 2 or 2.5 or 3 preps: engineering, and geometry for 2 different levels of kids. So, yes, I have a lighter load this year. From what I hear, either I'll have 3 or 4 (5?) preps next year ... no more worksheet creating for me.

ReplyDeleteFeels like I'm always nagging at my kids to write their congruence statements in the right order; like no, you can't just write the letters down in any order and try to convince me that you're right because 'it's still congruent'. I love how there's a secret message that they're looking for to keep them engaged until the very end! Definitely more exciting than some of those repetitive worksheets I've seen.
